In week one, Elenor and i worked together come up with ideas for staging , On first reading the play during this time we thought that the play should be in the round but also immersive because as the play is very personal and in the narrators head we thought that it would be good for the audience to be involved in the theatre however the use of thrust will be the most effective in the way we have interpreted the scrip and are performing it as it will give audience members the best experience fro watching the performance.

Theatre configurations
'immersive' -
The audience are involved in the action and actors 'immerse' themselves into the audience, this creates a more personal feel in the audience.'
'In the round'-
perform in a circle with actors saying the lines on after another .this kind of set up builds tension and atmosphere.
'promenade'-
the actors stay in the same place , and the audience moves around , one scene could be in a toilet and another outside, this can be good because it means that set isn't as hard to think about , but it is bad because it loses atmosphere and tension when in-between scenes and doesn't flow as well.
'traverse'-
Audience are placed on two sides sort of like a cat walk and actors perform in the middle.
'3 sided' -
like it says in the name the audience are on 3 side and audience perform sort of in the middle .
'end on'-
this is them most common type of stage as it is often used in theatres ,audience are seated in front of the stage and actors stay on stage.
'thrust'-
apron type audience , not quite 3 side or end on but more of a curve , it involves the audience more but doesn't make it so audience members can no see .

First impressions of the play
The play we are studying for unit two is Blackout by Davey Anderson; the play is based on truth and is about a boy that is bullied, to face the bullies he changes himself dramatically, he has a lot of emotional problems because his granddad died of cancer and he's mum was beaten by his dad etc. Whilst changing to become tough this gets mixed up in the wrong crowd and end up taking drugs, loses control, an then tried to murder someone.
The play is written without stage directions or characters, it is mostly short dramatic sentences which means that rather than having a context to the lines they can be said however the actor wants it to be set giving leniency to perform the play however the actor likes.
It is very detailed in its own unique way which is intriguing and I think it works very well for the style of play it is.
I enjoyed reading the play because it held me in suspense of what was going to happen next, it builds atmosphere and tension and because of the way it is written I feel as though we will be able to interpret it how we would like to.
The play asks the audience to imagine as he describes his scenario, even whilst just reading it is very easy to imagine his situation making it engaging to audience members.
Every line is a bold line that is needed, the structure of it makes it so that every line is important and not lost by the actors.
I think that the play has good potential for everybody in the class to show there talents and skills and everyone will get equal parts in the play.
I like the fact that in the production notes the only rule that Davey Anderson gives is to not use blackouts in the play , as this is not what the play is about. The name 'Blackout' uses a play on words and could mean several things, It could be referring to when the narrator takes lots of drugs and blackout , thus not remembering what he had done or it could be referring to the fact that during the play he is very racist and believes he is better than black people.
Overall I think that this is a very good play and well suited to our class and I am looking forward to studying it in more depth and detail.

The nature of internet research
Where do you go to find information on the internet?
I usually go to Google, sometimes I just type what I’m
searching into the web address bar and it redirects me to either Bing or Google. Web addresses with .org in are reliable, documentary
and films are useful also. Maps and interviews can be found in library and museums.
In museums you can find archives which can also be used as stimuli. Primary sources can
also be used (etc. Grandparents/parents/just plain old humans).
How does the internet differ from other sources of information?
On the internet information is a lot easier and quicker to find,
you can find exactly what you’re looking for very quickly and can be quickly updated,
however a lot of it is not verified as truth and fact and is rather opinion of
a person which could be biased and can use it to manipulate people to make
false things seem real so cannot be trusted as much as something such as an encyclopaedia
which is always factual. The internet is easily altered.
What is your favorite place to find information?
Google because it’s easy and quick and can be used anywhere
with a network connection, I sometimes find information from other places. but
then check it on Google.
What are the similarities between books and the internet?
They both give information and opinion, you can read books on
the internet and they can contain the same information.
What are the differences between books and internet?
Internet is more opinionated than books which are factual; the
internet can be altered easily whereas books are permanent and cannot be
altered or changed and become out of date quickly.books take a long time to be processed but the internet is instant.
What is Fascism
Fascism is 'A nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization.'
